Description

Candy Cane Cookies are festive peppermint-flavored cookies with a soft, buttery texture. Perfect for holiday baking, these cookies are rolled in sugar and decorated with red stripes for a candy cane effect.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp peppermint extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Red gel food coloring, as needed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract. Mix until combined.
  4. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Divide dough, adding a few drops of red food coloring to one portion for stripes.
  6. Roll small portions of dough into ropes and twist red and white dough together to form candy cane shapes.
  7. Roll each cookie lightly in granulated sugar and place on prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10โ€“12 minutes or until edges are set. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack.
  9. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

  • Use gel food coloring to prevent altering dough consistency.
  • For extra peppermint flavor, add 1/2 tsp more peppermint extract.
