Ingredients
- 2 slices bread
- 1 large egg
- ยฝ cup (2 oz) grated cheese (cheddar, pepper jack, or gruyere)
- 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat or preheat oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC) if baking.
- Place bread slices on a baking sheet or skillet.
- Crack an egg on top of each slice, keeping it in the center.
- Sprinkle grated cheese and chopped herbs over the egg and bread.
- Season with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper if desired.
- Cook on the skillet until egg whites are set, or bake in the oven for 10โ12 minutes until the egg is cooked to your preference and cheese is melted.
