Description

This one-pan Creamy Herb Chicken & Basmati Rice is a comforting, flavor-packed meal featuring tender chicken in a rich herb cream sauce served over perfectly cooked basmati rice. Ideal for weeknight dinners or meal prep.


Ingredients

For the Chicken:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

For the Herb Cream Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 cup heavy cream or half & half
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon dried rosemary
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

For the Basmati Rice:

  • 1 cup basmati rice, rinsed
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

For Garnishing:

  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest (optional)


Instructions

  1. Season chicken with garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sear chicken 3–4 minutes per side until lightly golden. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter. Add garlic and onion; sauté 2–3 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Stir in heavy cream and chicken broth, followed by thyme, rosemary, oregano, and Parmesan. Simmer 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Add chicken back to the skillet, cover, and simmer 10–12 minutes until chicken is cooked through.
  6. Meanwhile, cook basmati rice in chicken broth with salt and pepper according to package instructions.
  7. Serve chicken and herb cream sauce over basmati rice. Garnish with parsley and lemon zest if desired.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute half & half for heavy cream.
  • Add vegetables like peas or spinach to the skillet for a complete one-pan meal.
