Description
This one-pan Creamy Herb Chicken & Basmati Rice is a comforting, flavor-packed meal featuring tender chicken in a rich herb cream sauce served over perfectly cooked basmati rice. Ideal for weeknight dinners or meal prep.
Ingredients
For the Chicken:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
For the Herb Cream Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1 cup heavy cream or half & half
- ½ cup chicken broth
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- ½ teaspoon dried rosemary
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
For the Basmati Rice:
- 1 cup basmati rice, rinsed
- 2 cups chicken broth
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
For Garnishing:
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest (optional)
Instructions
- Season chicken with garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sear chicken 3–4 minutes per side until lightly golden. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter. Add garlic and onion; sauté 2–3 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in heavy cream and chicken broth, followed by thyme, rosemary, oregano, and Parmesan. Simmer 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Add chicken back to the skillet, cover, and simmer 10–12 minutes until chicken is cooked through.
- Meanwhile, cook basmati rice in chicken broth with salt and pepper according to package instructions.
- Serve chicken and herb cream sauce over basmati rice. Garnish with parsley and lemon zest if desired.
Notes
- For a lighter version, substitute half & half for heavy cream.
- Add vegetables like peas or spinach to the skillet for a complete one-pan meal.
- Leftovers store well in the fridge for up to 3 days.
