Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 ounces smoked Gouda cheese, shredded
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped, for garnish


Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions, salt, and pepper. Cook slowly for 25โ€“30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onions are deeply caramelized.
  2. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine caramelized onions, smoked Gouda, cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, and minced garlic. Mix until smooth.
